The Drama Club Expectations 2018 - 2019
Routine
Show your Laker Pride - Be Safe; Be Responsible; Be Respectful
*Keep hands, feet and objects to self
*Ask permission to leave room
*Look where you are going
*Use walking feet when moving about the different spaces. Students must refrain from behaviors that are considered “goofing around” (chasing each other around the classroom, throwing things, doing cartwheels, playing with other people’s property, etc.) These behaviors can escalate into unsafe situations.
*Be prepared with your materials: You are responsible for all deadlines for costumes, props and learning your lines PRECISELY by the off book date. You are responsible for creating your own costumes and props, unless Mrs. Plourde has communicated otherwise. It is expected that you will have your costumes/props completed and ready for rehearsal by the deadline.
*Stay on task
*Clean up after yourself
*Communication: You are responsible for communicating concerns to Mrs. Plourde. If you decide that you no longer would like to participate in the production, then you MUST tell her directly, and have a parent email Mrs. Plourde that they are aware of your decision at [email protected] If you have any questions or concerns talk to Mrs. Plourde or have a parent email her.
If you intend to ride home with someone NOT listed on your permission slip, please provide a note for Mrs. Plourde.
*Do your best : Academic Eligibility – Students in grades 5-8 must be passing all classes (70% or above) in order to participate in Drama Club. It is essential that every middle school cast member be vigilant about keeping their grades up. The cast must be able to depend on each other to fulfill their obligations for assigned roles.
Students are asked to put forth their best effort in all Drama Club rehearsals, shows and activities. Excellence is a habit. It does not happen randomly or by mistake. It happens when the whole team puts forth consistent and sustained effort. If a student does not intend to give 100% to the process, then Drama Club might not be a good fit. The directors cast students in roles which are appropriate for them, where they can achieve maximum success individually while contributing their own strengths to the group. Every role matters, and every experience is an opportunity for individual growth. Embrace your role, and make it special, unique and fun!
*Be quiet once rehearsal has started - if you need to talk, whisper
*Do not touch props, costumes or scripts that are not yours
*Listen actively: Students must listen carefully to notes, directions, announcements, etc.
*Follow the directions the 1st time
*Use kind words: Students must be kind and supportive of their cast members. If a behavior is distracting (such as being noisy off stage during a scene), and a student is asked to stop talking, then that student needs to stop talking. Ignoring requests to correct behavior is unacceptable. Cast members are expected to respect the polite requests when what they are doing impacts the positive experience of others.
**If Mrs. Plourde needs to address an individual’s behavior, s/he might lose the opportunity to participate in Drama Club. The director reserves the right to cut students from the cast if they are unwilling or unable to follow the expectations of the Drama Club.

Routine
- Before rehearsals begin: You should report to Mrs. Plourde’s room after dismissal for attendance and snack. If you are a participant in the after-school program, please report to the cafeteria FIRST to check in and let them know that you are at Drama rehearsal. After checking in with the after-school program, you should report to room 109 for snack. Attendance is taken at 2:25, and all students should be in room 109 by that time. Students should be finishing up snacks by 2:30-2:35. During this pre-rehearsal time, you should use the restroom, eat your snack, fill your water bottles, find your necessary materials and enjoy calm, relaxed social time with friends.
- During rehearsals: You must remain in the supervised area (the allocated area of the gym if we are rehearsing on the stage; or the classroom when we are rehearsing in the classroom.)
- No wandering around the building, “hanging out” in the hallway, lobby, bathroom, or any area of the building which is not our rehearsal space.
- You may only leave the designated rehearsal space for a bathroom emergency and you have asked permission. One person at a time is allowed to leave the rehearsal space. Please bring a water bottle to rehearsals so you don’t have to leave.
- Backstage and wings of the stage are for those waiting to make an entrance. These are “NO TALKING” zones.
- When not on stage you may practice your lines or work on homework. Use of electronic devices will not be allowed during rehearsal with exception of contacting parents before and after rehearsal.
- Only touch set pieces, props, curtains, costumes, supplies, etc. on the stage that are YOURS, or unless you have specifically been asked to help move something.
- After rehearsals: Stage Managers, Stage Crew and students in grades 5-8 are expected to help reorganize stage for next rehearsal. Students must remain in the lobby until Mrs. Plourde sees that you have connected with your parents. After-school program participants will be allowed access to the after-school program after rehearsals.

Exclusion, gossip, threats, name-calling, etc. has no place in the Drama Club. We will all work together, and we will all treat each other with dignity and respect.
